Sweeteners, Glucose Intolerance and Microbiota

Yıl 2017, - Mikrobiyota, 34 - 38, 15.11.2017

The use of food additives in food production are inevitable in this modern world. Although only safe amount of them are approved, their safety have always been questioned. The effects of food additives on microbiota have not been investigated in detailed manner up to know. In this review the effects of sweeteners, a part of food additives, were reviewed and showed that they affect microbiota. As a rusult, nonnutritive syntetic sweeteners can lead to glucose intolerance by affecting microbiota and a part of sugar alcohols show probiotic like effects.
