Abstract

Year 2024, Volume: 13 Issue: 1, 33 - 42, 26.01.2024

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study; to measure parental acceptance of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), in anterior and posterior teeth applications and to correlate it with demographic data.
Material and Method: This study was conducted with 176 parents with children aged 2-10 years. Socioeconomic and demographic data were collected. Two questions were asked about the acceptance of treatment in the posterior and anterior teeth, with photographs taken before and after SDF treatment. Then, in case of need for treatment with "sedation or general anesthesia", the acceptance of SDF in anterior and posterior teeth was asked.
Results: Parent's age, gender, educational status, income and child's age, gender, treatment history and cooperation could not be associated with parental acceptance of SDF. It has been determined that the answers of "undecided", "refuse" and "absolutely refuse" to SDF application in anterior teeth are seen at a significantly higher rate than in posterior teeth. No correlation was found between the need for sedation/general anesthesia and the acceptance.
Conclusion: More research is needed to understand the factors that parents’ acceptance of SDF. Despite the difficulties in the treatment of their children, parents do not keep aesthetic concerns in the background, especially in the anterior teeth.
