Diş hekimlerinin kanser hastalarının ağız sağlığı hakkındaki bilgilerinin değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada diş hekimlerinin herhangi bir kanser türü nedeniyle tedavi gören hastaların ağız sağlığı hakkındaki bilgilerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Nisan 2020-Ağustos 2020 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilen araştırmaya, Türkiye’de çalışmakta olan diş hekimleri dâhil edilmiştir. Diş hekimlerine e-posta veya sosyal medya aracılığıyla sosyodemografik durumları, kanser hastaları hakkındaki bilgi ve yaklaşımları içeren 21 sorudan oluşan anket formu uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 21.0 programında tanımlayıcı istatistikler, t-testi, ANOVA ve Tukey HSD testleriyle analiz edilmiştir.
Bulgular: Çalışmamızda, anket sorularını eksiksiz olarak yanıtlayan 317 diş hekiminin 224’ünün (%70.66) kadın olduğu ve büyük çoğunluğunun 23-30 yaş aralığında (n=240, %75.71) olduğu belirlenmiştir. Diş hekimlerinin kanser hastalarının ağız sağlığı konusundaki bilgi düzeylerinin ortalamasının 67.45±14.86 olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Katılımcıların bilgi düzeyleri ile cinsiyet, unvan, uzmanlık alanı, çalıştığı kurum, kanser hastalarıyla karşılaşma sıklığı, lisans/uzmanlık eğitiminde bu konu hakkında eğitim alması ve eğitime katılma zamanı arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark olduğu belirlenmiştir (p<0.05).
Sonuç: Çalışmamız sonuçlarından elde ettiğimiz veriler ışığında; diş hekimlerinin kanser hastalarının ağız sağlığı hakkındaki bilgilerinde eksiklikler olduğu görülmüştür. Konu ile ilgili daha çok çalışma yapılarak daha sağlıklı sonuçlar elde edilebileceği kanaatindeyiz.

Evaluation of dentists' knowledge about oral health of cancer patients

Abstract

Aim: In this study, the aim is evaluation of dentists' knowledge about the oral health of patients treated for any type of cancer.
Material and Method: The research, conducted between April 2020 and August 2020, included dentists practicing in Turkey. A 21-question survey was sent via email or social media, covering their sociodemographic information, knowledge about cancer patients, approaches. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0, including descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Tukey HSD tests.
Results: Among 317 dentists who completed the survey, 224 (70.66%) were female, and the majority were in the age range of 23-30 years (n=240, 75.71%). Dentists' average knowledge about oral health in cancer patients was 67.45±14.86. Statistically significant differences were observed between participants' knowledge levels and gender, title, specialization area, workplace, cancer patients encounters, education during training, and the time of participating in such education (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of our study, it is evident that there are deficiencies in the knowledge of dentists regarding the oral health of cancer patients. We believe that conducting more research and increasing awareness can lead to better outcomes in this regard.
