The Use of Arthrocentesis in Patients with Temporomandibular Disorder

Abstract

Temporomandibular disorders, which is an important issue today are defined as clinical problems involving the masticatory musculature, the temporomandibular joints and associated structures, or both.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are not rare in the general population and the patients not responding to conservative therapies are candidates for surgery. Arthrocentesis is a method of flushing out the temporomandibular joint that is currently performed by providing a double access to the joint space. Although arthrocentesis is not a cure-all, it has been widely used for a variety of temporomandibular disorders. The aim of this article was to review the efficacy of arthrocentesis in the treatment of patients with temporomandibular disorder.

Temporomandibular Bozukluğu Olan Hastalarda Artrosentez Kullanımı

Abstract

Günümüzde önemli bir konu olan temporomandibular bozukluklar; çiğneme kaslarını, temporomandibular eklemleri ve ilişkili yapıları veya her ikisini birden tutan klinik problemler olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Temporomandibular bozukluklar (TMD), genel popülasyonda nadir değildir ve konservatif tedavilere yanıt vermeyen hastalar cerrahi tedavi için adaydır. Artrosentez, eklem boşluğuna çift giriş sağlayarak gerçekleştirilen temporomandibular eklemi temizleme yöntemidir. Artrosentez her derde deva olmasa da çeşitli temporomandibular bozukluklar için yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bu makalenin amacı temporomandibular bozukluğu olan hastaların tedavisinde artrosentezin etkinliğini gözden geçirmektir.
