Sağlıklı Genç Erişkinler ve Ebeveynlerinin Fiziksel Aktivite Profillerinin Karşılaştırılması

Year 2020, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 54 - 59, 20.06.2020

Abstract

Bulgular: Yüz otuz dört erişkin genç olgunun yaş ortalaması 19.87 (17-25), %80’i kadın idi.

Comparasıon of Physıcal Actıvıty Profıles of Healthy Young Adults and Parents

Year 2020, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 54 - 59, 20.06.2020

Abstract

Aim: Cultural accumulation of societies has a great role in the participation of sports in daily routine. As with many of our behavioral features, it is potentially possible to transfer sports and physical activity (FA) habits from the family. The aim of our study is to compare the FA profiles of healthy young adults of university students with those of their parents.
Method: Healthy adult cases were asked to fill in the international physical activity survey short form (IPAQ-SF) to determine their physical activity levels. In addition, their ages, body mass indices (BMI) and educational status were recorded.
Results: The average age of 134 adult young cases was 19.87 (17-25) and 80% were women. While the mean age of the mothers of the cases was 46.03 (38-62), their BMI was 25.27 (17-42), the average age of the fathers was 49.90 (39-69) and their BMI was 26.68 (14-36). Considering the educational status of the parents, it was seen that most of the mothers were primary school graduates (35.8%) and fathers were high school graduates (33.6%). In the correlation analysis performed, it was found that young adults weakly correlated with their fathers' vigorius PA level (r = .214, p = .013), and showed a moderate correlation with their parents in all other PA categories. There was also a moderate relationship between the BMI of adult young cases and their father's BMI (r = .307, p <.05).
Conclusion: According to the results obtained from our study, the physical activity levels of young adults are similar to that of both parents, while their body compositions are in line with their fathers. For a healthy society, it is essential for families to be conscious and give their children a habit of exercising.
