Kahramanmaraş Istiklal University (KIU) Journal of Psychology is a journal published to contribute to original scientific research in the field of mental health. In the journal, it is aimed to publish the most up-to-date researches and review studies on all sub-fields of psychology. KIU Journal of Psychology is a peer-reviewed academic journal that includes original research in Turkish and English languages in the fields of psychology, psychological counseling and guidance, psychiatry, child psychiatry, social work, psychiatric nursing, child development, preschool education and special education. The responsibility for the published articles belongs entirely to the author(s).

KIU Journal of Psychology aims to contribute to scientific and social development by bringing together original and qualified studies in the field of psychology. It has adopted being among the reputable international journals in its field as a vision. While realizing this vision, KIU Journal of Psychology has adopted the basic principle of working meticulously from the first submission of articles to the printing stage, following a transparent and honest publication policy, and acting in accordance with scientific ethics and values.

KIU Journal of Psychology is published at regular intervals twice a year. Articles submitted to the journal must not have been previously published elsewhere or submitted for publication. In order for the articles to be published, the author(s) must fill out and sign the Copyright Transfer Form and upload it as an attachment file to the system. In addition, the plagiarism report should be added to the system.

The full texts of research submitted to the journal for publication should comply with the criteria under the "Writing Rules" section in this part. The full texts should be submitted to the journal in Word format.

Ethics Committee Approval Certificate

For all research based on data collection processes involving animals and/or human participants, such as surveys, tests, scales, observations, interviews, and recording, conducted from the year 2020 onwards, it is mandatory to submit an Ethics Committee Approval Certificate. The researcher(s) commit in this document submitted regarding their studies that they have adhered to all the conditions specified in the Ethics Committee Approval Certificate throughout all stages of their research. In studies that do not require Ethics Committee Approval, this should be declared by the author(s) during the submission of relevant files for the article.

The corresponding author of research submitted to Kahramanmaraş Istiklal University (KIU) Journal of Psychology for publication purposes, which does not require ethical approval, must upload the Declaration of Ethical Approval Form to the journal system on behalf of all authors.

Similarity Report

The similarity rate in similarity reports is accepted up to the upper limit of 25%, excluding references and including quotations.

Writing Rules

Manuscripts intended to be published in the KIU Journal of Psychology must meet the following conditions:

Manuscripts to be submitted to the journal must be in Turkish or English.

In manuscripts written in Turkish, English should be abstracted; in manuscripts written in English, Turkish should be abstracted.

Manuscripts should not have been published before and should not be sent to another journal for publication.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the writing rules in the journal are not evaluated.

Only one manuscript of an author is published in the same issue (except for invited and special issues). Even if the author has another manuscript accepted   for publication, it is not possible to publish this manuscript in the same issue; this manuscript is queued for publication in the following issues.

Peer reviewing (double blind reviewing) is essential in the journal.

A similarity report is requested for the manuscripts to be submitted to the journal. The upper limit of the similarity rate in similarity reports is 25%, excluding bibliography and including citations.

The relevant Ethics Committee Report should be uploaded to the system for studies that "require ethics committee permission". This should be declared by the  author(s) in the manuscripts that do not require it. The spelling rules to be followed in the studies to be sent to the journal are determined as follows:

A4 document size should be set vertically and 2.5 cm of space should be left at the edges of the page.

The text section should be between 4000-12000 words, except for Abstract sections, Keywords, and Bibliography pages. The font style should be Times New    Roman, 11 font size, and created as a Microsoft World file.

Subtitles in the main text should be written in lowercase letters, including capital letters, using 11 font size and bold characters.

The first line of the paragraphs should start from 1.25 cm inside and 6nk, then 6nk space should be left between the paragraphs and the paragraphs should be    justified. Other headings (main and sub-headings) in the manuscript should be written without indentation and on both sides.

Turkish Title: The Turkish title of the study should be written IN CAPITAL LETTERS using 12-point bold characters and should be centered.

English Title: English Title, following the Turkish title, should be written IN CAPITAL LETTERS using 12 font size bold characters and should be centered.

Author/Authors: Following the titles, the first letter of the author (capitalized), and the surname (all capitalized), should be written using 12 font size bold            characters. Then, information about the author (title, institution, e-mail address of the author and "ORCID") should be given.

Abstract: Turkish “Abstract” should be written with 1 line spacing using 10-point italic font and should be between 150-400 words.

Keywords: A minimum of three and a maximum of five Turkish keywords reflecting the subjects of the studies should be added. Only the first letters of each  keyword should be capitalized, each keyword should be separated by a semicolon, and all words should be given in italic font.

Abstract: The text written in the "Abstract" section should be given in English italics.

English Keywords: A minimum of three and a maximum of five English keywords reflecting the subjects of the studies should be given in the same order and in  the same sense as the keywords given in Turkish. Only the first letters of each keyword should be capitalized, each keyword should be separated by a  semicolon,  and all words should be given in italic font.

In applied research, the following parts should be included:

Introduction: In the introduction section, summary information about the sections of the study, its equivalent in the scientific literature, the importance of the  research, the research problem and objectives should be clearly stated.

Method: The type, model, questions and hypothesis(s) of the research, research group, data collection techniques, validity and reliability, data analysis,  limitations, ethics committee approval if necessary should be included in the method section.

Findings: The findings obtained in the study should be explained with the relevant tables, figures, graphics or pictures in a way that supports the purpose and  problem of the study and maintains integrity.

Discussion and Conclusion: The results obtained in the light of the research findings should be discussed and suggestions suitable for the results of the study  should be developed. In addition, suggestions should be given for future studies and applications in the field that will contribute to the literature.

Acknowledgement: If it is necessary, acknowledgements can be given as a footnote.

Citing: In all sources to be cited in the in-text and reference list, APA 7 version should be used. All references should be in the same language as the manuscript  was written in. The principles of Turkish citation for the Turkish text and English citation for the English text should be taken into account.

In case of using visual materials such as photographs, diagrams, etc. even if shown as a source, the legal responsibility for permission or copyright issues    belongs to the author(s)of the study. 

Acceptance and publication processes of the manuscript applied in the KIU Journal of Psychology constitute the basis for the development and distribution of information in an impartial and respectful manner. The processes implemented in this regard directly reflect on the quality of the work of the author(s) and the institutions that support the author(s).Peer-reviewed studies embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important that all related parties of the process (authors, readers and researchers, publishers, referees and editors) comply with the standards for ethical principles.

KIU Journal of Psychology requires all the related parties to comply with the following ethical responsibilities within the scope of publication ethics. The following ethical responsibilities have been prepared taking into account the guidelines and policies published as open access by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

The author(s) submitting a manuscript to the KIU Journal of Psychology are expected to comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

The manuscript submitted by the author(s) must be original, and if the author(s) benefit from other scientific studies, they must cite and/or quote in a complete and accurate manner.

The situations and relations of all studies submitted for publication that may constitute a conflict of interest, if any, should be explained.

Raw data on the manuscripts may be requested from the author(s) within the framework of the evaluation processes, in such a case, the author(s) should be ready to submit the expected data and information to the editorial board and the scientific board.

The author(s) must have a document showing that they have the rights of use the data and the necessary permissions regarding the research/analysis or that they have carried out the permission procedures for the experimental studies.

If the author(s) notices an inaccuracy or a mistake regarding the articles at the early view or evaluation stage, he/she has the obligation to inform the journal editor or the publisher and to cooperate with the editor in correcting or withdrawing the articles.

Authors' manuscripts cannot be in the application process of more than one journal at the same time. Each application may be initiated following the completion of the previous application. The study published in another journal cannot be submitted to the KIU Journal of Psychology.

Changing the author responsibilities of a study whose evaluation process has started (such as adding an author, changing the author order, removing an author) cannot be offered.


Ethical Responsibilities of Editors and Field Editors

The editor and field editors of the KIU Journal of Psychology should have the following ethical responsibilities on the basis of the “COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and “COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” published as open access by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):

Editors are responsible for each publication in the KIU Journal of Psychology. In the context of this responsibility, the editors have the following roles and obligations:

Making efforts to meet the needs of information of readers and authors

Continuously ensuring the development of the journal

Conducting processes to improve the quality of the studies published in the journal Supporting freedom of thought

Ensuring academic integrity

Continuing publication processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards

Demonstrating openness and transparency in terms of the issues that need correction and explanation


Relations with the Reader

Editors should make their decisions by taking into account the expectations of all readers, researchers and practitioners regarding the knowledge, skills and experience.

Editors should pay attention to the fact that the published studies contribute to the reader, researcher, practitioner and scientific fields and are original.

Editors are obliged to take into account feedback from readers, researchers and practitioners and to give explanatory and informative feedback.

The responsibilities of the editors towards the authors are as follows:

Editors should make positive or negative decisions based on the importance of the studies, their original value, validity, clarity of the narrative, and the aims and objectives of the journal.

Studies that are suitable for the scope of the publication should be taken to the preliminary evaluation stage unless there is a serious problem.

Editors should not ignore positive peer-review suggestions unless there is a serious problem with the study.

New editors should not change the decisions made by the previous editor(s) regarding the manuscripts unless there is a serious problem.

“Blind Review and Evaluation Process" should be published and editors should comply with the defined processes.

Editors should publish an "Author Guide" that includes every subject to be expected from them by the authors in detail. These guidelines should be updated periodically.

Authors should be notified and contacted in a descriptive and informative manner.


Relations with Referees

The responsibilities of the editors towards the referees are as follows:

Editors should determine the referees based on the subject of the study.

Editors are obliged to provide the information and guidelines that the referees may need during the evaluation phase.

Editors have to consider whether there is a conflict of interest between the authors and the referees.

In accordance with the principles of blind reviewing, the referees' identities must be kept confidential.

Editors should encourage referees to evaluate manuscripts in an impartial, scientific and objective language.

Editors should evaluate the referees with criteria such as timely feedback and performance.

Editors should determine practices and policies that increase the performance of the referees.

Editors should take the necessary steps to keep the Referee Committee up to date.

Editors should prevent unkind and unscientific evaluations.

Editors should take steps to ensure the diversity in Refree Committee. 

Relations with the International Advisory Committee

The editor should ensure that all advisory committee members progress the processes in accordance with publication policies and guidelines.
Editors should inform the members of the advisory committee about publication policies and keep them informed of developments.

Editors should ensure that advisory committee members evaluate the manuscripts impartially and independently.

Editors should select new advisory committee members from among qualified individuals who can contribute to the journal.

Editors should send suitable studies for review to the advisory committee members based on their field of expertise.

Editors should keep in communication with the advisory committee on a regular basis.

Meetings with advisors committe should be held periodically for the development of publication policies and the journal.


Relations with the Owner and Publisher of the Journal

The relationship between editors (chief editor and filed editors) and the publisher is based on the principle of editorial independence. In accordance with the written contract between the editors and the publisher, all decisions to be taken by the editors are independent of the publisher and the journal owner.

Editorial and Blind Review Processes

Editors are obliged to implement the "Blind Review and Evaluation Process" policies in journal publications. In this context, editors ensure that the fair, impartial and timely evaluation process of each manuscript is completed.


Quality Assurance

Editors are responsible for publishing articles suitable for publication in accordance with the journal publication policies and international standards.


Protection of Personal Data

Editors are obliged to ensure the protection of personal data related to the individuals participating the studies or images in studies. Unless the explicit consent of the individuals participating in the study is documented, editors are responsible for refusing to manuscript. In addition, editors are responsible for protecting the individual data of authors, referees and readers.


Ethics Committee, Human and Animal Rights

Editors are obliged to ensure the protection of human and animal rights in the studies. Editors are responsible for rejecting the study in cases where there is no ethics committee approval for the study with related participants/subjects and permissions for experimental research.


Prevention Against Possible Misconduct

Editors are obliged to take precautions against possible misconduct. In addition to conducting a meticulous and objective investigation to identify and evaluate complaints regarding this situation, sharing the relevant findings is among the editor's responsibilities.


Ensuring Academic Publication Integrity

Editors should ensure that mistakes, inconsistencies or misdirection during study reviews are quickly corrected.


Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

Editors are obliged to protect the intellectual property rights of all published manuscripts and to defend the rights of the journal and the author(s) in case of possible violations.

In addition, editors are obliged to take the necessary measures to ensure that the content in all published articles does not violate the intellectual property rights of other publications.


Constructiveness and Openness to Discussion

Editors should pay attention to persuasive criticisms of the articles published in the journal and adopt a constructive attitude towards these criticisms. They should give the author(s)of the criticized articles the right to reply. They should not ignore or exclude studies with negative results.


Complaints

Editors are obliged to carefully examine complaints from authors, referees or readers and respond to these complaints in an enlightening and explanatory manner.


Conflicts of Interest

Editors guarantee independent and impartial completion of the publication process of the studies, taking into account conflicts of interest between the author(s), referees and other editors.


Ethical Responsibilities of Referees

The "Blind Review" evaluation of all studies directly affects the quality of the publication. This process provides confidence through objective and independent evaluation of the publication.

The evaluation process of the KIU Journal of Psychology is carried out with the principle of double-blind reviewing. Referees cannot communicate directly with the authors, evaluations and comments are communicated through the journal management system. In this process, evaluation forms and referee comments on full texts are forwarded to the author(s) through the editor. In this context, the referees evaluating the study for the Journal of Psychology of KIU are expected to have the following ethical responsibilities:

Editors agree to evaluate only the studies related to their fields of expertise in an impartial and confidential manner.

Editors should inform the journal editor by refusing to review the study, If they consider that they are faced with a conflict of interest during the evaluation process,

In accordance with the principle of confidentiality, the editors should destroy the manuscript after the evaluation process.

Editors can only use the final versions of the studies they have reviewed after publication.

Editors should make the assessment objectively only in relation to the content of the study. They should not discriminate based on nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs, and commercial concerns during the evaluation process.

Editors should conduct the assessment in a constructive and courteous manner. They should not make insulting personal comments that contain hostility, slander and insults.

Editors should carry out the reviewing of the manuscript they have agreed to evaluate in a timely manner and in accordance with the ethical responsibilities set out above.


Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher of KIU Journal of Psychology (Istiklal University) and KIU Journal of Psychology Editorial Committe act with the awareness of the following ethical responsibilities related to KIU Journal of Psychology:

Editorial Committee is responsible for all processes of the studies submitted to KIU Journal of Psychology. In this context, regardless of economic or political gains, the decision-makers are the Editor-in-Chief and Field Editors.

The Editorial Committee guarantees to making independent editorial decisions.

The Editorial Committee protects the ownership and copyright of every article published in KIU Journal of Psychology and assumes the obligation to keep a record of every published copy.

The Editorial Committee has the responsibility of taking precautions against all kinds of scientific misconduct and plagiarism regarding editors.
