Effect of Different Ceramic Primers and Sandblasting on Bond Strength Between Resin Cement and Zirconia

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different primers and sandblasting on the shear bond strength of the self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia material.
Material and methods: Fifty zirconia specimens were prepared and sintered. The specimens were randomly divided into 5 different groups according to the surface treatment applied (n=10): Group N (control; no additional surface treatment applied), Group K (specimens were sandblasted with 50-µm Al2O3 particles), Group S (specimens were treated with Super-Bond Universal Ceramic Primer), Group M (specimens were treated with Monobond N), and Group Z (specimens were treated with Z-Prime Plus). Then, a self-adhesive resin cement was applied to all specimens in 3 mm diameter. The specimens were undergone a shear bond strength test in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The statistical analyses were done with one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests at a 95% confidence interval.
Results: Significant difference was found among the mean bond strength values of the groups (P<0.001). Group K showed a significantly higher mean bond strength value than Group N (P<0.05), however showed a significantly lower mean bond strength value than the primer groups (P<0.05). Groups S, M, and Z showed significantly higher mean bond strength values than those of Group N and Group S (P<0.05), however, there was no significant difference among the primer applied groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Primer conditioning method significantly improved the bond strength between the resin cement and zirconia compared to the sandblasting treatment. Different primers demonstrated comparable shear bond strength results.

Farklı Seramik Primerleri ve Kumlamanın Rezin Siman ile Zirkonya Arasındaki Bağlanma Dayanımına Etkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı primerler ve kumlamanın self-adeziv rezin siman ile zirkonya materyali arasındaki makaslama bağlanma dayanımı üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaktır.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Elli adet zirkonya örneği hazırlandı ve sinterlendi. Örnekler uygulanan yüzey işlemine göre rastgele 5 farklı gruba ayrıldı (n=10): Grup N (kontrol; ek yüzey işlemi uygulanmadı), Grup K (örnekler 50 µm Al2O3 partikülleri ile kumlandı), Grup S (örneklere Super-Bond Universal Ceramic Primer uygulandı), Grup M (örneklere Monobond N uygulandı) ve Grup Z (örneklere Z-Prime Plus uygulandı). Daha sonra tüm örneklere 3 mm çapında self-adeziv rezin siman uygulandı. Örnekler, üniversal bir test makinesinde 1 mm/dk'lık hız altında makaslama bağlanma dayanımı testine tabi tutuldu. İstatistiksel analizler tek yönlü ANOVA ve Tukey HSD testleri ile %95 güven aralığında yapıldı.
Bulgular: Grupların ortalama bağlanma dayanımı değerleri arasında anlamlı fark bulundu (P<0.001). Grup K, Grup N'den önemli ölçüde daha yüksek bir ortalama bağlanma dayanımı değeri gösterdi (P<0.05); ancak primer gruplarından önemli derecede daha düşük ortalama bağlanma dayanımı değeri gösterdi (P<0.05). Grup S, M ve Z; Grup N ve Grup K'dan istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek ortalama bağlanma dayanımı değerleri gösterdi (P<0.05), ancak primer uygulanan gruplar arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmadı (P>0.05).
Sonuç: Primer yöntemi, kumlama işlemine kıyasla rezin siman ve zirkonya arasındaki bağlanma dayanımını önemli derecede iyileştirmiştir. Farklı primerler, karşılaştırılabilir makaslama bağlanma dayanımı sonuçları göstermiştir.
