The Effect of Different White Spot Lesion Treatments on Surface Discoloration

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect
of different white spot lesion treatment methods on
surface discoloration.
Materials and Methods: 50 freshly extracted, cariesfree
bovine teeth were used in the study. For the surface
standardization of the teeth, the teeth were polished with
1200, 2400 and 4000 grit abrasives, under water cooling.
Teeth were washed with distilled water, randomly divided
into five groups (n=10) and baseline color measurements
were done. Group 1 (Control): artificial saliva, Group
2 (Grup-D): demineralization+ artificial saliva, Group
3 (Grup-FL): demineralization+ flour vernic, Group
4 (Grup-TM): demineralization+ CPP-ACP, Group
5 (Grup-IC): demineralization+resin infiltration. All
specimens were kept in artificial saliva at 37˚C for 4
weeks and final color measurement were done and ΔE00
values were calculated. The analysis of the obtained data
was done by using two-way Anova and Tukey’ post-hoc
tests.
Results: The highest ΔE00 value among the tested
groups was obtained in Group FL (1.50±0.55) and this
value was statistically different than all other groups,
while no statistically significant difference was found
between the other groups (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Although fluoride varnish showed the
highest color change among the tested methods, the
values obtained from all samples except the control group
were above the detectable value (ΔE00= 0.8) according
to the CIEDE 2000 color analysis system, but within the
clinically acceptable value range (ΔE00= 1.8) was found.

Beyaz Nokta Lezyonlarının Tedavisinde Kullanılan Farklı Yöntemlerin Yüzey Renklenmesine Etkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı beyaz nokta lezyonlarının tedavilerinde kullanılan farklı yöntemlerin, mine yüzeyindeki renk değişimine etkilerini incelemektir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 50 adet yeni çekilmiş, çürüksüz, sığır dişi kullanıldı. Dişlerin yüzey standardizasyonu için sırasıyla 1200, 2400, 4000 gritlik zımparalarla su soğutması altında zımparalanıp yıkandı. Örnekler 5 gruba ayrıldı (n=10) ve başlangıç renk ölçümleri yapıldı. Grup 1 (Kontrol): yapay tükürük, Grup 2 (Grup-D): demineralizasyon+ yapay tükürük, Grup 3 (Grup-FL): demineralizasyon+ flor vernik, Grup 4 (Grup-TM): demineralizasyon+CPP-ACP, Grup 5 (Grup-IC): demineralizasyon+rezin infiltrasyon. Örnekler 4 hafta boyunca 37˚C’lik etüvde yapay tükürükte bekletildikten sonra renk ölçümü tekrarlandı ve ∆E00 değerleri hesaplandı. Elde edilen verilerin iki yönlü Anova ve Tukey’s post-hoc testleri kullanılarak analiz edildi.
Bulgular: Test edilen gruplar arasında en yüksek ΔE00 değeri Grup FL’de (1,50±0,55) elde edilirken (<0,05) diğer gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık bulunmamıştır (p>0,05).
Sonuç: Test edilen yöntemlerden en yüksek renk değişimini flor verniği göstermiş olsa da kontrol grubu dışındaki tüm örneklerden elde edilen değerler CIEDE 2000 renk analizi sistemine göre algılanabilir değerin üstünde (∆E00= 0,8) ancak klinik olarak kabul edilebilir değer aralığında (∆E00=1,8) bulunmuştur.
