RENKLENDİRİCİ İÇECEKLERE MARUZ KALAN ŞEFAF PLAK MATERYALLERİNİN ZAMANA BAĞLI RENK STABİLİTESİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2023, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 1 - 9, 02.01.2024

Abstract

EVALUATION OF THE TIME-DEPENDENT COLOUR STABILITY OF CLEAR ALIGNER MATERIALS EXPOSED TO DISCOLOURING BEVERAGES

Year 2023, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 1 - 9, 02.01.2024

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the colour change of transparent plaque material in three different colouring solutions under in-vitro conditions.

Method: In this study, 48 Invisalign® aligner aligner trays (Align Technology Inc., San Jose, CA, USA) containing multilayer aromatic thermoplastic polyurethane/copolyester, formed only on the surface of the upper incisors, were obtained directly from the manufacturer and used. Four different colouring solutions were used in the study. These solutions were turnip, cold tea, cold coffee and distilled water. The colour changes of the samples were calculated using the ∆E00 system at three different time periods: before, at the seventh and at the end of the tenth day. All samples were kept in an oven at 37 °C during this period. Statistical analysis was performed for colour changes.

Results: Significant changes in ∆E00 were observed in all three groups between 0-7 days, but the changes between cold coffee and turnip were statistically similar. Significant changes in ∆E00 were observed in all three groups between 0-10 days, but the changes between cold coffee and cold tea were statistically similar. Between 7-10 days, a statistically significant change in ∆E00 values was observed in all groups. In general, cold tea showed the highest colour change in this study.

Conclusion: This study demonstrated that Invisalign material is susceptible to discolouration when exposed to various beverages.
