Aristophanes’in Komedyalarındaki Perikles, Sokrates ve Kleon Karakterlerinin Politik Bir Değerlendirmesi

Öz

Kökleri Atina kent devletine dayanan demokrasi
tecrübesinin en önemli hediyelerinden birisi de hiç şüphesiz eski
komedyalardır. Komedya geleneği içinde demokrasi rejimine şüpheyle yaklaşan ve
bu şüphelerini sıklıkla oyunlarında yansıtmaya çalışan Aristophanes’in yeri
oldukça önemlidir. Aristophanes’in oyunlarda göze çarpan bir unsur da Atina
demokrasisiyle özdeşlemiş politik lider ve düşünürlerin tek yönlü ve abartılı
bir şekilde ele alınıp, oyunun kötü karakterleri olarak sunulmasıdır.
Aristophanes oyunları, Atina demokratik ideali ile özdeşleşen Perikles ve Kleon
gibi iki önemli lidere, kavramsal düşünme ve değer öğretilerinin temelini atan
Sokrates’e sataşmalar ve hatta sövgülerle doludur. Bu makalede ele alınan temel
mesele, Aristophanes’in oyunlarında Perikles, Sokrates ve Kleon karakterlerini
nasıl işlemiş olduğu ve bu karakterler üzerinden Atina politik yaşantısı
hakkında ne tür yorumlar yapabileceğimiz soruları üzerine gelişmektedir.

Political Assessment of the Characters of Pericles, Socrates and Cleon in Aristophanes’ Comedies

Öz

One of the most important gifts of the
experience of democracy, which dates back to the city-state of Athens, is
undoubtedly the old comedies. Aristophanes has a very important place in the
tradition of comedy with his skepticism toward the democracy regime which he
often reflected on his plays. One of the remarkable factors in Aristophanes’
plays is that the political leaders and philosophers identified with the Athens
democracy are embraced in a one-sided and exaggerated manner and presented as villain
characters of the plays. The Aristophanes plays
are full of teasings and even swearings to two major leaders, Pericles and Cleon,
who are identified with the Athens democratic ideal, and to Socrates, who laid
the foundations of conceptual thinking and value doctrines. The main
issue addressed in this article is the question how Aristophanes handles the
characters of Pericles, Socrates and Cleon in his plays and what kind of interpretations
we can make about the political life of Athens on the basis of these
characters.
