Al-Bentonite Production and Adsorption of 75Se Radioisotope on Al-Bentonite

Öz

In this study, the investigation of Se(IV) adsorption on modified Reşadiye bentonite with aluminium-polioxy cations was investigated. In adsorption experiments, 75Se that was produced by neutron activation in İTÜ TRIGA MARK II nuclear research reactor and has similar chemical properties but shorter half-life with 79Se. Adsorption experiments on modified bentonite were implemented by using batch technique for various time and solid-liquid ratios by using measurements with high resolution gamma spectrometry system. The characterization with XRD, FTIR, and TGA-DTG methods confirmed that aluminium-polioxy cations interchalated to the interlayers and the bentonite structure was not affected. The basal spacing of the modified bentonite and the zeta potential is obtained as 1.853 nm 45.3±6.1 mV, respetively. Due to the realized structural changes, inorganic modification improves the adsorption ability of Reşadiye sodium bentonite from 2% to 100%. Evaluation of adsorption results showed that adsorption mechanism follows the pseudo second order reaction kinetic.

Al-Bentonit Üretimi ve 75Se Radyoizotopunun Al-Bentonitte Adsorpsiyonu

Öz

Bu çalışmada, Se(IV) anyonlarının, aluminyum-polioksi katyonları kullanılarak Reşadiye bentonitinden hazırlanan inorganik bentonite adsorpsiyonu konusunda araştırmalar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Adsorpsiyon deneylerinde 79Se ile benzer kimyasal özelliklere sahip ve daha kısa yarı ömürlü 75Se radyoizotopu kullanılmıştır. Bu izotop İTÜ TRIGA MARK II nükleer araştırma reaktöründe, nötron aktivasyonu yöntemiyle üretilmiştir. Kesikli adsorpsiyon yöntemi uygulanarak, modifiye bentonitin değişen süre ve katı/sıvı oranı için adsorpsiyon kapasiteleri gamma spektroskopi sisteminde ölçülerek, elde edilmiştir. Alumünyum-polioksi katyonlarının bentonitin aratabakalarına girdiği ve yapıyı etkilemediği, kullanılan XRD, FTIR, TGA/DTG karakterizasyon yöntemleriyle belirlenmiştir. Modifiye bentonitin bazal boşluk mesafesinin 1.853 nm, yüzey yükünün 45.3±6.1 mV olduğu tesbit edilmiştir. Yüzey özelliklerinde meydana gelen değişim nedeniyle, inorganik modifikasyon Reşadiye sodyum bentonitinin selenyum adsorpsiyon verimini1 mM selenyum çözeltisi için %2’den %100 oranına arttırmıştır. Adsorpsiyon deneyleri sonucu, adsorpsiyon mekanizmasının sanal ikinci derece reaksiyon kinetiğine göre gerçekleştiği belirlenmiştir.
