Echoes of Silence in Human Resources: The Anatomy of Quiet Quitting in Organizations

Yıl 2023, Cilt: 2 Sayı: 2, 69 - 88, 31.12.2023

Öz

The concept of "quiet quitting," emerging after the global pandemic and significant resignation wave, is gaining prominence in human resources. This study explores quiet quitting's history, its organizational impact, and origins linked to organizational silence metaphors. Quiet quitting, where employees withhold information, opinions, or concerns, leads to noticeable commitment and motivation loss. Its prevalence, psychological and organizational causes, and individual and corporate consequences are key focuses. The study aims to analyze quiet quitting in organizations and its implications for human resources management. Additionally, it examines other organizational concepts associated with silence metaphors, highlighting workplace negativity, through literature research. The study underlines the need for human resources professionals and managers to closely monitor quiet quitting's impact, like productivity loss, higher staff turnover, and potential toxic work environments. It stresses the necessity for managers to be more responsive and conscious of quiet quitting. The study also discusses strategies to identify, address, and mitigate quiet quitting. It aims to deepen understanding of silence-related concepts like quiet quitting, silent protest, and silent crisis. By thoroughly examining silence metaphors, the study intends to develop strategies encouraging employees to express themselves more effectively. Addressing this often-overlooked yet crucial concept is vital for sustainable organizational success.
