Öz

Bu çalışmada modern siyaset felsefesinin kurucusu olarak kabul edilen Machiavelli’nin genelde uluslararası ilişkiler özelde ise realizm kapsamındaki düşünceleri ele alınmıştır. Ancak çalışma kapsamında realizmin felsefi kökenini oluşturarak bu teorinin varsayımlarını doğrulamaktan öteye geçmeyen bir düşünür olarak değil Uluslararası Siyaset Teorisi çalışma alanında kabul gördüğü üzere münhasıran ele alınmıştır. Bir başka anlatımla Machiavelli’nin uluslararası ilişkilere dair düşünceleri ile Realist Uluslararası İlişkiler teorisi arasındaki bağlantı bir ilişki olarak incelenmiştir. Bu bakımdan çalışmanın ilk bölümünde Machiavelli’nin düşünceleri zamandan ve mekândan azade olarak değil içinde bulunduğu sosyo-politik şartlar bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümünde ise realizmin Machiavelli’yi kapsayan değil Machiavelli’nin realizmi içeren düşünceleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Nihayet çalışmanın sonuç bölümünde Machiavelli ile Realist Uluslararası İlişkiler teorisi arasındaki ilişkinin ortodoks anlatımı aşılmaya çalışılmıştır.

Machiavelli and Realist International Relations Theory

Öz

In this study, the thoughts of Machiavelli, who is considered as the founder of modern political philosophy, within the scope of international relations in general and Realism in particular, are discussed. However, within the scope of the study, Machiavelli is discussed not as a thinker who does not go beyond confirming the assumptions of this theory by creating the philosophical roots of Realism, but as autonomous, as is accepted in the field of International Political Theory. In other words, the connection between Machiavelli’s thoughts on international relations and the Realist theory of International Relations was examined as a relationship. In this respect, in the first part of the study, Machiavelli’s thoughts are discussed not as free from time and place, but in the context of the socio-political conditions in which he is located. In the second part of the study, the focus is on Machiavelli’s thoughts that include Realism, not on Realism that includes Machiavelli. Finally, in the conclusion of the study, an attempt was made to overcome the orthodox explanation of the relationship between Machiavelli and Realist International Relations theory.
