AB  - Bu makalede incelenecek olan temel unsur, zaman ölçüm araçlarından biri olan kol saatlerinin görselliği ve tasarımıdır. Bu incelemede, zamanın algılanmasının ve ölçülmesinin insanlık tarihiyle çok yönlü ilişkisi de göz önüne alınacaktır. Her türlü saatin zorunlu olarak bir tasarımı olması gerçeğinin kabulüyle birlikte, bu çalışma, kol saatlerinin ara yüzü olarak da adlandırılabilecek olan, saat kadranlarının tasarımları ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Kol saatlerinin kadran tasarımları tek tek tasarım öğelerine indirgendiğinde nokta, leke, çizgi, doku, harf gibi öğelerden oluşmaktadır. Kadran tasarımları soyut bir kavram olan zamanı görselleştirmesi, bir mesajı kısıtlı bir yüzey üzerinde tasarlaması gibi özelliklerinden dolayı pür grafik tasarım olarak ele alınabilir. Bu bağlamda, kol kadran tasarımlarının grafik tasarımın en temel elemanlarının kullanıldığı, bir görsel iletişim alanı olduğu iddiası temellendirilecektir. Saat kadranlarının bir grafik tasarım ürünü olduğunun göstergesi olarak, sanat tarihine yer etmiş akımların kadran tasarımına ve tipografisine etkisi tarihsel ve güncel örneklerle incelenecektir. Bu bağlamda daha çok saat kadran tasarımlarının bütüncül görüntüsü ve tipografisi üzerinde durulmuştur. Art deco ve Yeni Tipografi gibi akımların kadran tasarımına olan açık etkisi örnekler üzerinden gösterilmiştir. Yüzyılı aşkın süredir kullanılan kol saatlerinin kadranları incelendikçe, saat yüzü tasarımlarıyla grafik tasarım arasındaki ilişkinin yoğunluğu ortaya çıkacaktır.
