Social, cultural, and traditional social structure restricts women’s social life from birth and subordinates them. It also prevents them from reaching equal services, opportunities, and resources as men and benefiting from many basic needs that are necessary for them to have an acceptable life level. This process continues in old age as well. Poverty affects women who have many disadvantages throughout their lives, more profoundly in old age. Women in this period face several social, cultural, physical, and economic problems caused by both being old and being a woman. This condition creates a double disadvantageousness. The unequal position of women against men within the family and social structure prevents them from reaching the labor force, education, and other resources and weakens them socially and economically in old age. In the light of this information, this review aims to emphasize the effect, importance, and causes of poverty on older women.}, number={1}, publisher={Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University}
