AB  - Bu makalenin konusu, son beş yüz yılda küresel emperyalizmle doğan ve Sanayi Devrimi’ylebelirginleşen, Avrupa ile dünya arasındaki ayrışmayı açıklamaya yönelik hipotez ve teorilerdir. Bu konu,Kenneth Pomeranz’ın 2000 yılında yayınlanan The Great Divergence adlı eseriyle yeniden canlanmışve Büyük Ayrışma başlığıyla sürdürülmüştür. Bu makalede konuyla ilgili belli başlı çalışmalar ortayakonulmuş ve sonuç bölümünde genel bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır. Konuyla ilgili hipotezler, bu makalededoğal faktörler ve kültürel-kurumsal faktörler başlığı altında sınıflandırılarak ele alınmıştır. Yüzlercekitap ve binlerce makalenin üretildiği Büyük Ayrışma konusunun tatmin edici bir açıklamaya ulaşabildiğisöylenemez. Bunun için öncelikle iktisat tarihi ile iktisat teorisi arasındaki kopukluğun giderilmesigerekir. Bununla birlikte sosyal bilimlere nüfuz etmiş olan Avrupamerkezci açıklamaların terk edilmesi dezorunludur. Konuyla ilgili hipotezlerin bir kısmında görülen önemli bir sorun da yanlışlanma koşullarınınbelirlenmeyişidir. Bu durum, test edilebilirliği ortadan kaldırarak ilgili çalışmaların bilimsel değeriniazaltmaktadır. Tek boyutlu ya da indirgemeci açıklamalar, olgunun anlaşılmasına imkân vermemektedir. Bunedenle tatmin edici bir açıklamanın, doğal ve kültürel-kurumsal faktörleri birlikte dikkate alması gerekir.Büyük Ayrışma’ya yol açan faktörlerin çokluğu, konuyu içinden çıkılmaz bir karmaşaya sürüklemiştir. Bunedenle faktörler arasında bir hiyerarşinin veya önem derecesinin belirlenmesi de gerekmektedir.

N2  - The subject of this paper is the hypotheses and theories purposed at explaining the divergencebetween Europe and the world, which emerged with global imperialism in the last five hundred yearsand became evident with the Industrial Revolution. This subject was revived with Kenneth Pomeranz’swork The Great Divergence, published in 2000, and continued under the title The Great Divergence. Inthis paper, major studies on the subject are presented and a general evaluation is made in the conclusionsection. Hypotheses on the subject are discussed in this article by classifying them under the headingsof natural factors and cultural-institutional factors. It cannot be said that the subject of the GreatDivergence, for which hundreds of books and thousands of articles have been produced, has been ableto reach a satisfactory explanation. For this, first of all, the disconnection between economic history and economic theory must be eliminated. However, it is also imperative to abandon Eurocentric explanationsthat have permeated the social sciences. An important problem seen in some of the hypotheses on thesubject is that the conditions for falsification are not determined. This situation reduces the scientificvalue of the relevant studies by eliminating testability. One-dimensional or reductionist explanations donot allow the phenomenon to be understood. Therefore, a satisfactory explanation must take into accountnatural and cultural factors together. The multitude of factors that led to the Great Divergence havedragged the issue into an inextricable confusion. Therefore, it is necessary to determine a hierarchy ordegree of importance among the factors.
