KW - Hava Kirliliği KW - Ağır Metal KW - Okul Bahçesi KW - Karayosunu N2 - This study aims to evaluate the air quality of schools in terms of heavy metal pollution by performing heavy metal analyzes on mosses collected from the gardens of some secondary schools in Giresun. Since mosses do not have any real roots, stems or leaves, and since they do not have a cuticle or epidermis layer in their leafy structures, they can accumulate heavy metals in the air, therefore they are very good bioindicator plants. Since heavy metals also cause negative effects on children, the air quality of schools where children spend significant time is important in this respect. In this study; A total of sixteen moss samples were collected from five secondary schools, four in the city center and one in a town in Giresun, and four moss samples were collected from Kulakkaya plateau as a control region. Heavy metals in the collected moss samples were determined as a result of analysis on the Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) device. As a result of the analysis of mosses collected from school gardens, the averages are; The concentration values of Al, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb were determined as 8214.67, 38.72, 16.76, 320.96, 10470.31, 4.65, 10.10, 33.69, 94.39 and 23.80, respectively. The average concentrations of mosses collected from the control region were determined as 3345.90, 11.00, 6.77, 2102. 2017.86, 1.39, 5.26, 7.91, 37.22 and 3.17. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the heavy metal amounts of the mosses collected from the control area were less than the heavy metal amounts of the samples collected from the school gardens. As a result of this study; It is once again demonstrated that our schools should be built in locations as far away from human-induced pollution as possible. CR - Akdur, R. (2009).
