AB  - Sosyal bilimler alanında önemli bir yere sahip olan Zygmunt Bauman, 1925 yılında Polonya’da dünyaya gelir. İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında Sovyetler Birliği’ne ve sonra da İsrail’e gitmek durumunda kalır. 1971 yılında İngiltere’nin daveti üzerine, ölüm tarihi olan 2017 yılına kadar yaşamını burada sürdürür. Bauman’ın yayınlanan 57 kitabında biyografisinin etkisini görmek mümkündür. Retrotopya (2017), ölmeden kısa bir süre önce tamamladığı bir çalışma olması sebebiyle, Bauman sosyolojisinde önemli bir konuma sahiptir. Erken modernite döneminin iddialı ve umut dolu vaatlerine inanarak özgürlük coşkusuyla evinden çıkan modern insanın, ortaya çıkan problemler karşısında ne yapacağını bilmeyen; mutsuz, umutsuz, yalnız ve çaresiz bir halde, eskinin huzur ve dinginlik veren toplumsal yapı ve değerlerine dönme çabasının veya evine dönme arzusunun anlatıldığı bir kitap. Bauman’ın çağdaş Batı toplumunu kavrama ve analiz etme yeteneğinin zirve yaptığı bu çalışması, modern toplumu anlamak isteyen herkes için önemli bir kaynak niteliğindedir. Daha önce yapmış olduğu çalışmalardan izler taşır. Modernite ile gelen toplumsal değişme, eşitsizlik, teknoloji kullanımı, küreselleşme, güvensizlik ve belirsizlikleri “Retrotopya” kavramı ile bir kez daha ele alır. Bu kavram geleceğinden umudunu kesmiş insanlığın geçmişe sığınma yönelimini ifade eder. Çağdaş sorunlar içerisinde bocalayan insanlığın içinde bulunduğu çaresizliğin bir “geriye dönüş” getirip getirmeyeceğini sorgular.

N2  - Zygmunt Bauman, who has an important place in the field of social sciences, was born in Poland in 1925. During the Second World War, he had to go to the Soviet Union and then to Israel. In 1971, upon the invitation of England, he lived here until his death in 2017. It is possible to see the influence of Bauman's biography in his 57 published books. Retrotopia (2017) has an important position in Bauman's sociology as it is a work he completed shortly before his death. It is a book about the modern man who leaves his home with the enthusiasm of freedom, believing in the ambitious and hopeful promises of the early modernity period, not knowing what to do in the face of the problems that arise; unhappy, hopeless, lonely and helpless, trying to return to the peaceful and serene social structure and values of the past or the desire to return home. This work, in which Bauman's ability to comprehend and analyse contemporary Western society is at its peak, is an important source for anyone who wants to understand modern society. It bears traces of his previous works. He once again addresses the social change, inequality, use of technology, globalisation, insecurity and uncertainties that come with modernity with the concept of ‘Retrotopia’. This concept expresses the tendency of humanity, which has given up hope for its future, to take refuge in the past. He questions whether the desperation of humanity, which is floundering in contemporary problems, will bring about a ‘return’.
