TY - JOUR T1 - Validity and Reliability of the Turkish version of the Modified Total Neuropathy Score (Ped-mTNS) for Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy AU - Atay Turan, Sevcan AU - Çeltik, Emine PY - 2025 DA - July Y2 - 2025 DO - 10.26650/CURARE.2025.1596199 JF - CURARE Journal of Nursing PB - Istanbul University WT - DergiPark SN - 2980-1133 SP - 1 EP - 8 IS - 8 LA - en AB - Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Modified Total Neuropathy Score (Ped-mTNS) for assessing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in oncology patients aged 5–18.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 82 oncology patients and 82 healthy controls in a university hospital. The Ped-mTNS was translated and culturally adapted into Turkish using linguistic validation and expert reviews. Data were collected using the Turkish Ped-mTNS, and reliability was assessed through internal consistency and test-retest methods. The construct validity was tested by comparing known groups and hypothesis testing. Results: The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the Turkish Ped-mTNS was 0.71, indicating good internal consistency. Test-retest analysis showed a high correlation (r=0.99, p<0.05), confirming temporal reliability. The mean total Ped-mTNS score was significantly higher in the patient group (3.59) than in the healthy controls (0.30, p<0.05). The hypothesis testing revealed strong positive correlations between the total PedmTNS score and the sensory and Functional Symptom Scores (r=0.70 and r=0.80, respectively). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Ped-mTNS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing CIPN in children receiving chemotherapy. This instrument provides a quick, non-invasive method for the early detection of CIPN symptoms, enabling timely interventions to improve the quality of life and reduce the symptom burden. Further studies should investigate its sensitivity to changes over time and its applicability to different chemotherapy regimens.
