KW - Hayao Miyazaki KW - Anime KW - Çevre Sorunları KW - Küresel Farkındalık KW - Yeşil Teori N2 - Aim: This article aims to demonstrate the hope of transforming environmental awareness into political action by examining the anime films of two-time Academy Award-winning anime artist and director Hayao Miyazaki in the field of international relations for the first time. This article distinguishes itself from other studies by analyzing environmental awareness in Miyazaki's anime from a unique and groundbreaking perspective in the field of international relations.Method: This study analyzes how the environmental awareness fostered by Miyazaki's anime can translate into political action within the framework of Green Theory. In this context, the article examines Miyazaki's works in depth, focusing on the potential for global ecological awareness to translate into political action regarding environmental sustainability and environmental issues. Results: It has been demonstrated that environmental awareness at both the individual and societal levels can translate into political activism not only in Japan and Asia but also in Western culture, where Miyazaki's anime has found a strong audience response. Promising examples of political decision-making and implementation have been identified in both Eastern and Western societies. Conclusion: The characters, plots, and unique landscapes in Miyazaki's anime have been shown not to have a passive effect on viewers, but rather to transform large audiences into active participants in environmental awareness. In the technological age, the increasing level of cultural awareness influenced by media can also be reflected in political decisions and actions. In this context, it has been concluded that Miyazaki's anime is not merely an aesthetic approach to the ecological balance and harmony of the environment, but can also be a powerful motivator for alternative political activism on a global scale through popular culture. Examples of how environmental awareness can be transformed into political activism have raised hopes that even better things can be done. CR - ADANMA, U. M., OGUNBIYI, E. O. (2024).
