AB  - Bu araştırmanın amacı sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin Genetiği Değiştirilmiş Organizmalar (GDO) ile ilgili bilgi düzeylerini ve biyoteknolojiye ilişkin tutumlarını incelemektir. Çalışma, 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılında Adıyaman Hürriyet Ortaokulu’ndan 200 ve Gaziantep Ortaokulu’ndan 173 olmak üzere toplam 373 8. sınıf öğrencisi ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Biyoteknolojiye Yönelik Tutum Anketi ve GDO Bilgi Düzeyi Anketi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular,  genel olarak öğrencilerin genetiği değiştirilmiş ürünlerden haberdar olduklarını ve genetiği değiştirilmiş besinlerin zararlı olduğunu düşündüklerini ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin büyük oranda GDO’nun daha çok meyve ve sebzelerde bulunduğu fikrine sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler neticesinde öğrencilerde biyoteknolojiye yönelik bazı kavram yanılgılarının olduğu, bu kavram yanılgılarının giderilmesi için öğrencilere biyoteknoloji eğitimi verilmesi gerektiği önerilebilir.

N2  - The aim of this research is to investigate 8th grade student’s knowledge of genetically modified organism (GMO) and their attitudes toward biotechnology. This study was conducted by 373 8th grade students, 200 of them from Adıyaman Hürriyet Secondary School and 173 of them from Gaziantep Karacaoğlan Secondary School. In this study, scales of attitudes toward biotechnology and the knowledge level of GMO were used as the data collection tool. The findings from the research revealed that the students were generally aware of genetically modified products and they thought that genetically modified foods were harmful. Also, it was determined that most of the students have got the idea of mainly fruits and vegetables involving GMO. It was understood from the obtained data that the students have got some misconceptions about biotechnology and training for the students about biotechnology can be suggested to overcome the misconceptions.
