Data were collected through document analysis of digital news websites. The retrieved data were categorized into qualitative and quantitative contents and presented as percentage and frequency distributions. Drowning-related deaths in Turkey were examined in terms of gender, age, reasons for being in the drowning location, the type of location, season, citizenship status, and region. Between January 1, 2024, and October 5, 2024, 167 individuals lost their lives due to drowning. Regional analysis revealed that the highest proportion of cases occurred in the Black Sea Region (27.5%). Regarding the type of location, most drowning incidents took place in seas (49.1%). Recreational activities were identified as the primary reason for entering the water, accounting for 93.4% of the cases. Seasonally, 82% of the incidents occurred during the summer, which aligns with the increased swimming and water activities during this period. In terms of age groups, individuals aged 15–30 represented the largest proportion of cases (40.1%). Gender analysis showed that males were involved in 89.2% of the incidents. Furthermore, 89.8% of the victims were Turkish citizens. These findings highlight the need for nationwide swimming education, beginning with children, as well as stricter enforcement of safety measures in restricted areas. Additionally, raising public awareness about swimming safety and first aid and closely monitoring these processes are recommended to reduce drowning-related fatalities in Turkey.}, number={3}, publisher={Gumushane University}
