KW - benlik güdüleri KW - benlik yüceltme KW - psikolojik sağlık N2 - People have a motivation to protect the integrity and positivity of their self. This motivation is referred to as the self-enhancement motive. Whether self-enhancement is beneficial for psychological health has been debated in the literature. While some researchers argue that self-enhancement is adaptive for psychological health, others have suggested that self-enhancement is maladaptive for psychological health. The purpose of this review is to examine the relationship between self-enhancement and psychological health. As a result of the review, it is concluded that self-enhancement motive is beneficial for psychological health. However, more cross-sectional and longitudinal studies are needed to examine the relationship between self-enhancement and psychological health. The necessity of studying self-enhancement in future research and psychotherapy practices has been discussed. CR - Alicke, M. D., Govorum O. (2006). The better-than-average effect. Psychology Press.
