AB  - During the second millenium B.C. there was a fierce competition between two great powers of Ancient History, the Hittite Empire and the Egyptian Kingdom to gain influence over the small commercial state at the Eastern Mediterranean coast. The competition between these two powers led to the battle of Kadesh on the Orontes River, south of Syria. Since the battle was inconclusive, competition between these two states lasted for a further fifteen years, until both sides realized that there was no other option than to conclude a mutual piece treaty.
