The second group of 11 volunteers was given sunflower oil consisting of long chain fatty acids by the same route and amount.Blood IRI, free fatty acids, triglyceride and glucose levels were examined at certain intervals for 3.5 hours. It was shown that short chain fatty acids given orally under physiological conditions and amounts increased plasma immunoreactive insulin levels in normal individuals, while long chain fatty acids, under the same conditions and amounts, did not affect plasma immunoreactive insulin levels.
