Ottoman medicine, in its theory and practice, education, and health services, was fundamentally a continuation of that of the Seljuks. Therefore, this article examines the evolution of medicine along the lines of Islamic civilization—the Anatolian Seljuks—Ottoman society. The characteristics of Turkish medicine before their conversion to Islam, as well as the beliefs and practices they adopted from the societies that developed before them in Anatolia, are beyond the scope of this article. A special section is devoted to the changes in Ottoman medicine during the late period, which can be roughly dated from the beginning of the nineteenth century, some of which extend into the Republican era.}, number={1-2}, publisher={Ankara University}
