TY - JOUR T1 - OBEZ KADINLARDA AKUATİK EGZERSİZ VE DİYETİN FİZİKSEL UYGUNLUK VE YAŞAM KALİTESİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ TT - THE EFFECT OF AQUATIC EXERCISE AND DIET ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN OBESE WOMEN AU - Özoruç, Servet AU - Sevimli, Dilek PY - 2026 DA - April Y2 - 2026 JF - Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Spor Bilimleri Dergisi JO - CUSPOR PB - Sivas Cumhuriyet University WT - DergiPark SN - 2717-8919 SP - 43 EP - 52 VL - 7 IS - 1 LA - tr AB - Su egzersizleri, obez ve fazla kilolu bireyler için egzersizi kolaylaştırır ve karada yapılan egzersizlere kıyasla yaralanma riskini en aza indirir; çünkü egzersiz sırasında vücudun etkili bir şekilde soğutulmasını sağlar ve kalbe kan dönüş hızını artırır. N2 - Aquatic exercises facilitate exercise for obese and overweight individuals and minimize the risk of injury compared to land-based exercises because they promote effective cooling of the body during exertion and increase the rate of blood return to the heart. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of an aquatic exercise and diet program on physical fitness components and quality of life in obese women. The mean body mass index (BMI) of the study group (SG) was 34.49 ± 3.39 kg/m², while the mean BMI of the control group (CG) was 33.55 ± 2.58 kg/m². This study employed a quasi-experimental design. The study group underwent an aquatic exercise program and a diet program 3 days a week for 10 weeks, while the control group underwent only the diet program. Following the collection of demographic information, measurements were taken using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), a quality-of-life scale specific to obese individuals, a balance test, a sit-up test, a flexibility test, a wall squat test, and a plank test. According to the difference score analysis, a significant difference was found in favor of the control group in the quality-of-life scale specific to obese individuals (p = 0.03). In the study group, significant differences were found in BMI (p = 0.01), balance test (p = 0.04), plank test (p = 0.031), DEXA fat measurements (left arm, right and left leg, mid-total and total; p <0.05), DEXA total mass measurements (intermediate total, head, and total; p <0.05), and DEXA body fat percentage (left arm, trunk, right and left leg, intermediate total, and total; p <0.05). The aquatic exercise and diet program showed positive effects on physical fitness parameters in obese women compared to the diet program alone. In particular, the reductions in BMI, fat mass, and total mass support the idea that this combined program is a more effective method for obesity management. CR - Aydın, E. M., Sağlam, A.
