TY - JOUR T1 - Fiili Emekten Dijital Emeğe: Görünür Olma ve Metalaşma Arasında TikTok’ta İşçi Videoları TT - From Material to Digital Labor: Worker Videos on TikTok Between Visibility and Commodification AU - Dikkol Akçay, Selver PY - 2026 DA - May Y2 - 2026 DO - 10.24955/ilef.1890001 JF - Ankara Üniversitesi İlef Dergisi PB - Ankara University WT - DergiPark SN - 2148-7219 SP - 113 EP - 149 VL - 13 IS - 1 LA - tr AB - Dijital ekonominin bileşenlerinden sosyal medya platformlarında kullanıcı türevli içerik ile platform arasındaki ekonomik ilişkileri anlamaya odaklanan bu çalışma; dijital emek ve değer süreçlerini, fiilî emeğin temsili içeriklerinden biri olan işçi videoları ekseninde çözümlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. The study questions the relationship between platform capitalism and user-generated content produced through worker videos circulating on social media, while aiming to examine the role of this content in making working conditions visible. In this context, the study examines how data emerging through worker videos on TikTok, as user-generated content, is utilized by the platform, while simultaneously exploring the function of these videos in increasing the visibility of the work performed. Worker videos on TikTok offer a concrete case for debates on digital labor because they directly display the production conditions of actual labor while enabling that labor to enter platform circulation as content. Using a qualitative research design, the study analyzes the hashtags included in TikTok worker videos using social network analysis. It examines how representations and narratives of labor circulate on the platform and through which interaction mechanisms they gain visibility, focusing on the structure of hashtag networks and the relations among them. The findings are interpreted through the lenses of platform capitalism and digital labor theories. The results show that hashtags in worker videos help render the difficulty of work and working conditions visible; however, they also operate in accordance with the platform’s logic of circulation and algorithmic visibility. Moreover, while worker videos make labor visible through the hashtag network, they simultaneously integrate into the labor and value production processes within the context of platform capitalism by providing a continuous flow of content and interaction to the platform.
