AB  - Bu bilimsel çalışma, anabolik androjenik steroid (AAS) kullanan erkeklerin dünyasındaki psikolojik bağımlılık döngüsünü derinlemesine çözümlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın temel odak noktası, AAS kullanımının sadece fiziksel performansı yükseltmeye yönelik teknik bir eylem olmadığı; bilakis benlik algısı, özgüven ve kimlik inşasıyla iç içe geçmiş psikolojik bir süreç olduğu varsayımından hareket etmektedir. Metodolojik izlek olarak nitel araştırma desenlerinden Yorumlayıcı Fenomenolojik Analiz (YFA) yaklaşımının benimsendiği çalışmada, örneklem grubu en az bir dönem (kür) AAS tecrübesi bulunan 13 erkek katılımcıdan oluşturulmuştur. Mevcut literatür doğrultusunda açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan yapılandırılmış yazılı görüşme formu aracılığıyla çevrim içi fitness toplulukları, sosyal medya grupları ve ilgili dijital platformlar aracılığıyla toplanan veriler; YFA’nın analitik protokollerine uygun biçimde betimleyici, yorumlayıcı ve kavramsal analiz katmanlarından geçirilmiştir. Analiz neticesinde elde edilen bulgular; (1) başlama süreci, (2) psikolojik pekiştirme, (3) yoksunluk ve benlik çözülmesi ile (4) rasyonalizasyon ve yeniden başlama olmak üzere dört ana tema altında yapılandırılmıştır. Bulgular, AAS kullanımının lineer bir seyirden ziyade, başlama ve bırakma durakları arasında seyreden döngüsel bir psikolojik mekanizma inşa ettiğini göstermektedir. Özellikle yoksunluk evresinde hissedilen benlik çözülmesi ve buna eşlik eden derin psikolojik boşluk duygusunun, bireyi tekrar kullanım patikasına yönelten temel dinamiklerden biri olarak öne çıktığı görülmüştür. Bu çalışma, steroid kullanım dinamiklerinin psikolojik bağımlılık bağlamında anlaşılmasına katkı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.

N2  - This scientific study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the psychological dependency cycle in men who use anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS). The central focus of the research is based on the assumption that AAS use is not merely a technical act aimed at enhancing physical performance, but rather a psychological process intertwined with self-perception, self-confidence, and identity construction. Adopting Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as its qualitative methodological framework, the study sample consisted of 13 male participants with experience of at least one AAS cycle. In line with the relevant literature, data collected through a structured written interview form consisting of open-ended questions, via online fitness communities, social media groups, and related digital platforms, were analyzed through descriptive, interpretative, and conceptual layers in accordance with IPA analytical protocols. The findings were organized under four main themes: (1) the initiation process, (2) psychological reinforcement, (3) withdrawal and self-dissolution, and (4) rationalization and restarting. The findings suggest that AAS use constructs a cyclical psychological mechanism that moves between initiation and cessation rather than following a linear trajectory. In particular, the sense of self-dissolution experienced during the withdrawal phase, together with a profound feeling of psychological emptiness, appeared to stand out as one of the key dynamics directing individuals back toward renewed use. This study aims to contribute to understanding steroid use dynamics within the context of psychological dependency.
