All hip abnormalities and risk factors were recorded. Morphologic hip examination was performed according to the method of Graf and stability , if necessary , was assessed according to the method of Harcke et al.Of the 447 babies, 290 ( 64.9 %) were screened within neonatal period whereas, 157 (35.1 %) babies were examined after 1st. month at first. 118 ( 25 % ) babies had an identifiable risk factor when examined.The prevalence of sonographic abnormalities on 290 neonates was 1.7 %, on 118 babies with a "high risk " factor was 20.3 % and 329 babies with no clinical abnormality of the hips and no a " high risk " factor was 1.2 % .We concluded that , in Antalya, selective screening with ultrasonography is more effective than screening of all newborns. To reduce the number of unnecessary control and to facilitate assessment , we propose the screening of hips on the presence of a predetermined risk category for DDH.}, number={2}, publisher={Turkish Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology}
