The authors of this ZPE article criticise Şahin’s views (see fn. 3) a) on the inscription of the baths of Patara (TAM II 2, 396) and b) on the architectural inscription from Delikkemer. The first case (a) concerns the question whether the baths of Patara are of Neronian (so argues Eck) or of Vespasianic origin (so claims Şahin). Şahin defends his view with five points in the first part of this article, thereby again rejecting Eck’s position. In the second case (b) the authors of the lighthouse article try to correct the Vespasianic architectural inscription on the pressure pipe aquaeduct of Delikkemer near Patara in two places. The first correction concerns the change of the number of the month in line 7 from Î› (maintained by Şahin) to Î” (claimed by Eck e.a.). Şahin rejects this correction categorically since on the one hand the reading of Î› on the stone is correct and, on the other, this number does not directly refer to the duration of the repair work (maintained by Eck e.a.), but, as the inscription makes it quite clear, only to the period of time during which the city was cut off from running water. Şahin left open the final deciphering of the hard-to-read and therefore not readily comprehensible passage in lines 8/9 of the Delikkemer inscription and presented it as follows: Î¼Î·Î´ÎµÎ¼Î¹á¾¶[Ï‚] ÎšÎ‘Î¤Î‘ÎÎ›Î¡Î‘ á¼Ï€Î¹Î³ÏÎ±[Ï†]á¿†Ï‚ Î³ÎµÎ½Î¿Î¼ÎÎ½Î·Ï‚. The authors of the ZPE article want to read it as meaning Î¼Î·Î´ÎµÎ¼Î¹á¾¶Ï‚ ÎºÎ±Ï„á¾½ á¼„Î½Î´ÏÎ± á¼Ï€Î¹Î³ÏÎ±Ï†á¿†Ï‚ Î³ÎµÎ½Î¿Î¼ÎÎ½Î·Ï‚, a reading previously considered but rejected by Şahin because if thus read the passage remains incomprehensible in the overall context. In the second part (Nachtrag) of this article Şahin once more takes a position contrary to Eck’s, who in a new ZPE article (see fn. 46) put the inscription of the baths of Patara up again for discussion. On the basis of the excellent photos of the architectural inscription, published by Eck, of the baths of Patara Şahin notes that the stone carrying the inscription was once clad with a slab. It should therefore be taken into consideration that the partial erasion of the architectural inscription and of the name of Vespasian in the first line may have to be seen in the context of the attachment of said cladding. }, publisher={Nalan Eda AKYÜREK ŞAHİN}
