Materials and Methods: The setting of the study was composed of a total of 105 students receiving education during the 2012-2013 academic year. The study was carried out on 89 students (85%). A survey form composed of 17 questions related to the sociodemographic characteristics of the students and a General Health Survey-28 were used in the study. The students under the supervision of the researchers filled out the surveys. Permission was obtained from the faculty dean’s office and the students for being able to implement the study. Findings: It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) among the point averages on the General Health Survey-28 according to year of education of the students. However, when it was taken into consideration that the cutoff point of the General Health Survey-28 was “5 and above”, then the point averages of the first year students (5.25±4.94) was high compared to the second year students (4.02±5.03). According to the point averages, it was determined that 46% of the first year students and 30% of the second year students were located in the risk group for mental health. A statistically significant difference (p>0.005) was not found between the point averages of the students on the General Health Survey-28 and family structure, educational status of parents, number of siblings, economic status, where they lived, reason for choosing nursing, having a hobby and status of using cigarettes. The point averages on the General Health Survey-28 of the students with malnutrition was higher compared to the students with adequate nutrition and it was determined that the difference between them was statistically significant (t=-2.732, p <0.005). Conclusion: It was proposed that conformance programs be prepared for developing biopsychosocial good health statuses, that consultancy services be given and that professional assistance be provided by cooperation with the other health disciplines for the students in the risk group for mental health.
