N2  - The present study investigated the distribution of the stag beetle populations in the Taurus and Amanos mountains. In additon, the effects of adversely changing environmental conditions on this populations were also investigated. Site work was conducted as explorations in woodlands at different altitudes with various vegetation within the provinces of Hatay, Adana, Osmaniye and Kahramanmaraş from June to August in 2009 and 2010. In the area, two subspecies, namely Lucanus cervus akbesianus and Lucanus cervus judaicus were identified. Out of 85 male stagbeetles totally sampled were 50 and 35 specimens collected in 2009 and 2010 respectively. A decline of 30% was realized in therir population. Among the causes of decreases in population of these species could be summarized as habitat destruction, invasion of forests, the use of insecticide, removal of dead woods and soil from the woodlands and poaching of these insects. In this study the actions that should be taken to increase the population of the stag betle are discussed
