N2  - In this essay, problematical relationship between ideology, propaganda and mass media from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey (from 1830’s to 1980’s) is roughly examined through a historical spectrum even if it is restricted with broad historical context. In this frame especially the abuse of mass media by political powers and social groups for their own interests is emphasized. The scope of this study doesn’t cover such issues as the freedom of press, cinema and T.V. The socio-cultural effects of mass media on individuals and the society have been scrutinized throughout different historical periods
