TY - JOUR TT - The Position of Predicates Composed of Two Verbs Depending Upon “Varmak” AU - Üstünova, Kerime PY - 2002 DA - December JF - Uludağ Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi PB - Bursa Uludağ University WT - DergiPark SN - 2564-6834 SP - 107 EP - 113 VL - 3 IS - 3 KW - Yardımcı eylem KW - yüklem KW - asıl unsur N2 - In predicates that use the verb “varmak” and are composed of two or three verbs the main element is the second verb. As a result the second verb is responsible for both the meaning and the selection of the other elements that appears in the sentence. This complies with the rule that in Turkish main elements are placed at the end of the sentence. However, it contradicts the rule that in Turkish the auxilary verbs are found at the end of the sentence. The verb “varmak” is found at the head and server as an auxilary verb. It does not contribute to the predicate with its meaning. Its role is to indicate that there is no harm in either happening or not happening of the presented action.
