In addition to the sectoral activities related to industry, agriculture, transportation; developments in mass tourism and secondary housing have played important role in the degradation of these areas. The coastal management policies, which have gained significance within the international mediums lately, aim to establish integrated approaches in order to sustain conservation-usage balance in natural, historic and cultural environments against uncontrolled development of mass tourism. With these concerns, the aim of this paper is to discuss development of national policies related to mass tourism and coastal areas in Turkey in relation with their impacts on natural and cultural heritage in the light of developments in international mediums and Mediterranean region.
