Although were taken to modernize the education during this period, the works initiated in this respect were half-finished. The problem of education and teaching became one of the most serious one which reflected itself on the national state. Within this context, the people of Muğla whose level of education was low and who were not open to outside influences, began to leave this phenomenon by applying the national and seculer education policy of newly established Turkish Rebuplic. Since in the field of organized education the state strove to solve the problem of the lack of teachers by means of the guality of a village teacher or village institutions, this not only enlivened the education system of Muğla but also the number of schools in primary and partially in the elemantary education incrased rapidly till 1950’s. The state enhanced the level of its people’s education in a short period and in order to extend the consciousness of being a nation and the national culture amongst the people encourage the people to adopt them, the state constituted National Schools and People’s Houses. Although National schools and People’s Houses of Muğla brought some benefits with the motivation of enthusiasm at the beginning they gave up their activities throughout time.
