Many commentaries (tafāsir) of differing types have been written on this short but deeply meaningful surah. Avicenna wrote a short tafsir offering a concrete example of efforts to reconcile religion and philosophy. At the same time, with this tafsir he has been the initiator of a tradition of philosophical in- terpretation of the Surah Ikhlas. Many full commentaries (suruh) and marginal notecommentaries (hawashin) on this tafsir have been written by various scholars who ref- lect on the understanding of existence and unity set out by Avicenna. In this article the hashiya on this tafsir by Ebû Saîd Hâdimî are analyzed. Hâdimî was a commentator on the work of Imam Birgivî who was close to the idea of a kind of Salaf in the Otto- man Empire. Avicenna’s and Hâdimî’s ideas of being, creation and unity are analyzed here according to Hâdimî’s hashiya. Although Hâdimî wrote this hashiya in a period when the philosophical thought was ignored, this hashiya shows that Hâdimî attached importance to philosophical thought. Here we see that Hâdimî follows closly the phi- losophical thought of Avicenna considering the idea of being, unity and creation.
