The pupil demands his/hermaster to give the icazatnamah, and the master prepares and gives it to him/her.icazatnamah can be given only by a master authorized to give permission. In the knowledge of qiraah (reciting the words of the Qur'an according tothe specific rules), icazetnamah means a writıen perleetion certificate showing thatthe reciter has all qualities in order to recite .the letıers and words of the Qur'an inaccordance witlı a manner appropriate to the required rules. In the knowledge ofqıraah, icazatnamahs are divided into two kinds as verbal or written. The date otthe verbal kind goes back to the period of Prophet Muhammad (peace be uponhim). As for the written kind, it dates back to the lll. ( IX ) century when the sanadand isnad (the dıain of authorities on which a Iradilion is based ) were begun to beregistered in books. So they are the writtenn·certificate ot the knowledge of qıraalı.At the same time, icazatnamalıs show that the Qur'an has been taught by theclıain of promotions through seniority so far, and in this way its quality of botlı wordand pronunciation has been protected.
