The sample of the research consists of 720 old people.Personal Information Form and Beck Scale of Hopelessness were used to collect the data for the research.The statistical analyses of the data reveal the fact that the scores of the elderly in the hopelessness scale do not vary significantly in terms of gender and whether they have children or not. However, significant differences were found in terms of age. The hopelessness scores of the illiterate and the scores of the hopefullnes of those with university diplomas were found to be much higher than the others. The scores of motivation loss of the unmarried, those without any social insurance, those who spend their free time worshipping and those who live with their children, and the scores of hopefullnes of the married, those with social insurance, those who read in their free time and those who live with their spouses were found to be higher. Those who have friends to talk about their problems, those who can go out for a walk, those who can have a bath any time and those who think that they lead a good life have lower hopelessnes and higher hopefullness scores. Those who can have a rest any time and those who can eat anything have less motivation loss and higher hopefullness scores. Those without any income, those who feel lonely and those with serious diseases have higher hopelessness and lower hopefullness scores. Those who want to move to nursery homes have more motivation loss than those who do not.
