N2  - Along with the increasing world trade, the relative importance of maritime transport, and the number and volume of vessels arriving in ports tend to increase. As a basic component of maritime transport, ports are growing and evolving. Ports supporting trade and transportaion, offer important opportunities for the economic development of the cities and regions, establish a strong bond among various trading centers. In this regard, a great competition in order to meet the rising demand on a global scale has been experienced. Kocaeli, as a city located on a gulf and around transit routes, connects Istanbul to Anatolia. Thus, Kocaeli ports provide important strategic advantages for the city, as well as the country.
