N2  - The most characteristic side of a successful monetary policy in capturing the price stability is based on its having a credibility. Raising importance of the credibility has shown that central banks should be away from the political axis and have an independent identity; and so it has initiated the daily discussions on independence. In this concept, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has become independent due to the law in number 4651. However, in the establishment of the independence it has been found that legal regulations are not sufficient. In addition to this, discussion on the de facto independence beginning with the appointment of a president actualized by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has made the independence of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey questionable. In this study, it has been dealt about the elements that affect the independence of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey negatively, and also it has been displayed that the independence of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has not been in a sufficient level yet. This result depends on the fact that the political and economic milieu has not been absorbed the de facto independence of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, and in addition to that the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has shown attitudes to affect the credibility in a negative way.
