As a result of this trend thousands of varieties have disappeared, agriculture has become deeply dependent upon irrigation, machinery and agrochemicals, farmers around the world disappear, hunger continues to grow, and the food we eat has lostflavor and diversity. Plant breeding is increasingly funded by private corporations; itincreasingly serves the interests and objectives of few corporations. In 2006 the Turkish Parliament passed a law on seeds which, if it is fully implemented, willerode the farming practices of farmers. Under the new law, farmers will be able to continue tosave seeds for their own use and to exchange with other farmers without having to registerthem. But any activity on their part which hints of “trade” will invoke penalties CR - B a ş b a k a n l ı k, CR - Bell, Janet, 1997, “Will the U.S. Breadbasket Bent, StephanA. 2006.”History and Portents for CNDSF, 2005.
