N2  - This study, aims to explore the structural differences between animal husbandry sector in European Union and animal in EasternAnatolia Region and to determine the causes that constrain the production with high quality and low cost which are two important factors in competing with European Union. To reperesent the study area, 480 samples were determined with simple random sampling method from 4 provinces and 56 villages, and the survey conducted in 2007 to gather information regarding animal husbandry. According to the study results, 57.9% of the farms have local breeds, 77.5% suffer from food and mouth disease, 37.9% suffer from brucella, 34.6% suffer from hepatitis.With their current structure, 94.2% farmers would not be able to provide the standards on animal health and welfare practice. To adjust to the European Union Aquis, following issues can be recommended: the ratio of local breeds should be decreased in animal husbandry farms, the ratio of larger scale farms that produce their own forrage should be increased, prevailed animal disease must be decreased and all the farms in the region have to be registired.
