Considered as one of the main entities of oral culture, proverbs have a significant part in perfectly portraying the relationship between the language and the culture. Besides, proverbs play an undeniable role in order to reflect the tendencies of all societies with respect to their way of living and thinking. Moreover, phrases in proverbs not only give several clues regarding the perspective of the society to “the man” and “the woman” but they also depict their roles in the communities. In this study, closely referenced to the concept of gender, the dual notions, namely woman-man, girl-boy, daughterson, wife-husband and bride-groom, are evaluated through an attentive analysis. In addition, the perception of woman and man in the Arabic community and its reflections are examined by means of the Arabic proverbs. It is projected that this study can be beneficial in order to comprehend how the concept of gender take place in the oral culture through the instrumentality of language and expressions, as well as to observe the Arabic society’s point of view pertaining to woman and man with the help of proverbs. This study is carried out with the acceptance of that there is no significant paper drawing attention to the Arabic proverbs in terms of the concept of gender, and the necessity of standing out a new analysis regarding this topic although it is determined that the same issue in Turkish proverbs are handled before.
