The word is popularly thought to be derived from the Vandals, the Germanic tribe who settled in the Southern Iberia and Northern Africa. According to this point of wiev, it is believed that the name Andalusia, Arabic for “Country of the Vandals,” was originally applied to the entire Iberian Peninsula by the Muslims. However, scholars are by no means in agreement. After the lslamic conquest of Spain, the name of Andalusia firstly appears in coin inscriptions as the Arabic equivalent of Hispania. As the Christians began to reconquer the peninsula in the eleventh century, the name was used only to describe the area still under the Muslim control. Up to the present, four possible etimologies have been put forward suggesting that it has been derived from Vandalucia, Andalish, Atlantis and Landahlauts CR - Kaynaklar Kaynaklar Kaynaklar:::: CR - » Atçeken, İsmail Hakkı, Endülüs’ün Fethi ve Mûsâ b.
