Besides its similarities with the carbon structureof fluconazole, the newly synthesized 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromobenzene is also more active thanlow concentrated fluconazole. During and after the drug use, oxidative events occur in the organism. In this study, effects of previously proved as an antibacterialand antifungal molecule 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromobenzene (C18H12S2IBr) on mammal livertissue and mammal kidney using biochemical methods. 80 male andfemale Wistar albino rats between the range of 150-200 gr have been used forthis study.  Total 16 rats have been usedas subjects in this experiment and each group consisted of 8 males and 8females. Rats have been given fluconazole as well as 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromo benzene orally, each dissolvedin alcohol, once in a week for 4 weeks. All subjects separated into 5 groups: acontrol group, alcohol control, fluconazole group (0.28 mgr/100 gr) and twodifferent doses of 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromobenzene (0.112 mg/100 gr and 0.056 mg/100 gr). Liver tissues obtainedfrom subjects using cervical dislocation and preserved at -30oCuntil examination. Kidney malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), nitricoxide (NO), vitamin C levels (AA) and myeloperoxidase activities (MPO) studiedusing spectrophotometric methods. Thio halo-benzene derivative 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromo benzenereduced female MDA levels -the indicator of lipid peroxidation-, and alsodecreased neutrophil infiltration. As for male rats, no statisticallysignificant differences have been found on other parameters, excluding GSHlevels. Thereby it is concluded that this newly synthesized antifungal compounddoes not cause any damage on female liver tissue. When the effects of newlysynthesized thio halo-benzene derivative 2,4-dithio-phenoxy-1-iodo-4-bromo benzene and fluconazole on thelipid peroxidation indicator MDA compared, it has been found that it increasesthe capacity of kidney tissue antioxidants and there were significantly lowstatistics. It is concluded that this newly synthesized antifungal compounddoes not cause any oxidative damage in male kidney tissues when comparing withfluconazole. CR - [7] Koçkaya, E.
