N2  - Diş hekimlerinin karşılaştığı kontrol altına alınmasıen zor problemlerden biri odontojenik enfeksiyonlardır. Çürük, periodontalhastalık ve pulpitis gibi başlangıç enfeksiyonları dişlerden alveoler kemiğe veyüzün, oral kavitenin, baş ve boynun derin dokularına yayılım gösterebilirler.Odontojenik enfeksiyonlar; minimal tedavi gerektiren, iyi lokalize, düşükdereceli enfeksi- yonlardan, hayati tehlike arz eden, derin fasiyal yapıla- rınenfeksiyonuna kadar farklılık gösterebilir. Her ne kadar odontojenikenfeksiyonların büyük çoğunluğu minor cerrahi müdahalelerle ve antibiyotik uygulan- masını daiçeren destekleyici tedavilerle kolayca kontrol altına alınabiliyorsa da; hekimher zaman bu enfeksiyonların kısa süre içinde ciddi ve hayati tehlike arzedebilecek duruma gelebileceğini aklından çıkar- mamalıdır. Çenelerinosteomiyeliti bu gibi inatçı, tedavisi zor enfeksiyonların bir sonucu olarakortaya çıkabilir. Tıp ve diş hekimliği alanlarındaki gelişmeler veantibiyotiklerin devreye girmesiyle birlikte tanı ve tedavi süreci kolaylaşmışve mortalite oranları azalmış olsa da osteomiyelit hala oldukça ciddi birhastalıktır. Bu derlemede çenelerde görülen osteomiyelit tipleri vetedavilerinden bahsedilecektir.Anahtar Kelimeler: osteomiyelit, kronik reküren multifocal osteomiyelit, kemik hastalıklarıOSTEOMYELİTİS OF THE JAWSOdontogenic infections are one of the most difficultand hard to manage problems that dentists encounter. Early infections such ascaries, periodontal diseases and pulpitis may spread from the teeth to thealveolar bone and to deeper tissues of oral cavity, head and neck. Odontogenicinfections could differ from localized, low-grade infections which requirelittle treatment to infections of deep facial structures which may be lifethreatening. Although a majority of odontogenic infections may easily becontrolled with minor surgical interventions together with antibioticapplications; clinicians should always keep in mind that these infections maybecome very serious and life threatening in a short amount of time.Osteomyelitis of the jaws may occur as a consequence of such persistent, hardto treat infections. Although the diagnostic and treatment processes ofosteomyelitis have become easier and the mortality rates dropped down with theadvancements in dentistry and medicine and antibiotics coming into play in thetreatment of infections; osteomyelitis is stil a very serious disease. In thisreview osteomyelitis types and treatments will be discussed.Keywords: osteomyelitis, chronic recurrent multifocalosteomyelitis, bone diseases
