Various studies suggest that participation in sports activities has improved body, soul, personality, and had important roles in being assertive individuals. Although there are several studies related to the assertiveness level of children and adolescents, in our country, we have not come across any studies examining the assertiveness levels of sedentary people (SP) and veteran athletes (VA). Therefore, we found necessary to investigate the assertiveness levels of the above-mentioned individuals. In this study, Rathus Assertiveness Scale, having a reliability coefficient of .92 and an 11-item personal information form were given to SP (n= 48) and VA (n= 52) of > 40 years of age. Assertiveness levels of SP and VA showed statistical differences depending on participation in sports, age, occupation, income level, birthplace, number of siblings, marital status, and alcohol intake. However, their assertiveness levels did not change depending on their level of education, stress perception, and number of children. This present study, indicating the assertiveness levels of the VA as ‘sufficient’ also showed that people performing sports were more assertive than the ones who do not.
}, number={4}, publisher={Gazi University}
