N2 - Recently, the need to liquid fuels and organic chemicals obtained from petroleum derivates is increasing. One of the most important energy resources to fulfill this need is the oil shales. In this study, the removal of mineral matter from the Seyitömer-Kütahya oil shales, which were obtained from the lignite production process as a by-product and haven’t been evaluated, was investigated under various extraction conditions. The 72.24% mineral matter content of the original oil shale was reduced to 64.31% by HCl extraction at the first stage and it was reduced to 17.24% by HCl-HF extraction at the second stage and to 14.63% after the last stage by HCl-Zn extraction. At the end of demineralization, 93.42% of the original mineral content of the oil shale was removed. Demineralization has affected the calorific value positively according to the calorific value determination results.   CR - [1] Madencilik Özel İhtisas Komisyonu Enerji Hammaddeleri Alt Komisyonu: Kömür Çalışma Grubu Raporu, 1996, Yayın No: DPT: 2440-ÖİK:496, ss. 153, T.C.
